Computer question
« on: October 08, 2017, 08:13:14 PM »
I still use my old G5 PowerMac (Power PC) because of the software thatís on it that may or may not be available anymore, plus itís a work horse, has my entire iTunes music library, etc.  Tonight we had a power outage in the neighborhood, and even though all my drives and computers are on an APC UPS, there appears to be some damage.

When I try to boot up, it gives 3 blinks of the power button, which indicates RAM issues, I think.  Regardless, it seems silly to buy another G5, but I still need access to the software etc.  Is there any way I can access that from my 2013 iMac?  Like a disk caddy or something?  Or do I need to find yet another G5 PM chassis?

Pull the hard drive out, and put it in another caddy. If it's a ram issue or a logic board gone bad the HD should still be in tack.

You're welcome to borrow one of my docking stations if you'd like, or just pick one up...they are pretty cheap and good to have around.

Thanks, Darren. I have two disk caddies but I may buy another G5 PPC. I think the HD is fine, and that it's a RAM, RAM slot or power supply.  PS 7 runs faster on that unit than the newest photoshop CC does on my recent iMac.  Plus many other useful applications.
